ISTH Esteemed Career Award Tilman Hackeng
The International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH) has named CARIM director Prof. Tilman Hackeng as a recipient of the 2025 Esteemed Career Award, recognising his outstanding contributions to the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. With a career rooted in biochemical curiosity, Tilman began his research journey in 1987, eventually earning a PhD focussed on the anticoagulant protein S. Over the decades, his work has shaped the understanding of coagulation mechanisms and introduced promising new therapeutic approaches, including a non-immunogenic TFPI inhibitor that could offer long-term treatment for hemophilia without increased thrombotic risk.
Beyond his scientific achievements, Tilman has been a dedicated member of the ISTH community for more than 30 years, mentoring young researchers and helping to organise major events, such as the 2013 Congress in Amsterdam.
The award was formally presented at the ISTH 2025 Congress in Washington, D.C., that took place 21-25 June.
