Yesim Kaya (Dept of Cardiology) has received a Mozaïk 2.0 grant from NWO for her PhD project IMPACT-VT, 'Improving the management of scar-related ventricular tachycardia: Introducing personalized 3D arrhythmia models and patient-centered care'. In total, 13 individuals have been awarded this grant and can start or continue their research. Yesim will continue her research on the use of 3D heart models to improve the treatment of scar-related ventricular tachycardia.

As of 1 June 2025, Dr Elham Bidar (Department of CTC) has been appointed as Principal Investigator (PI) within CARIM. 

We are thrilled to share that the Departments of Cardiology and Physiology at the Cardiovascular Research Institute Maastricht (CARIM) had a remarkable presence at the recent EHRA 2025 Scientific Congress in Vienna.

We are pleased to announce that Dr Bart Spronck (Dept of BME) and Dr Casper Mihl (Dept of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine) have been selected to participate in the Dutch CardioVascular Alliance (DCVA) Leadership Program.

As of 1 April 2025, the Thrombosis Expertise Centre (TEC) is led by Prof. Henri Spronk and Dr. Kristien Winckers.

Judith Sluimer is awarded a prestigious Vici grant from NWO for the project 'Resetting fibroblast metabolism rejuvenates aged vasculature'.

Early recognition of talent is one of the key strategies of CARIM to coach and prepare gifted young academics for their future academic career. CARIM stimulates and supports talented students and staff by offering grants for research programmes at each step of their career, be it at Bachelor, Master, post graduate, PhD or postdoc level. 

Dr Uyen Nguyen (Dept of Cardiology) and Dr Roel Meiburg (Biomedical Engineer, TU Eindhoven) have been awarded a Dekker Team Science grant by the Dutch Heart Foundation.
