Marleen van Greevenbroek

Associate professor

Dr Marleen van Greevenbroek is Medical Biologist (University of Utrecht, 1992) and Epidemiologist (Maastricht University, 2012). She received her PhD degree in 1997 at the University of Utrecht, on a thesis concerning the effects of fatty acids on the production of intestinal triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. In September 1997, she was appointed at the University of Maastricht (Dept. of Internal Medicine), where she was involved in studies on the metabolic and genetic aspects of obesity and cardiometabolic diseases.

Her main area of research is the identification of early events in the development of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. In recent years, her research activities specifically focused on the role of the complement system herein. This research encompasses both cohort studies and experimental work.
